Menasha Corporation Promotes STEM Careers at Local High School Event

Neenah, Wis….

Menasha Corporation is a presenting sponsor of 2022 Smart Girls Rock, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) career exploration event for high school girls in the Fox Cities area of Wisconsin. The one-day event will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the Walbec Group in Greenville, Wisconsin and is coordinated by the Fox Cities Chamber.

“We want to ignite a passion for STEM careers in more young women, and the Smart Girls Rock event has proven to be an ideal avenue to reach local high schoolers,” said Maggie Miller, Human Resources Partner for Menasha Packaging Company, a subsidiary of Menasha Corporation headquartered in Neenah, Wisconsin.

Menasha Corporation was also a presenting sponsor of Smart Girls Rock in 2021. This year, nearly 100 female students from high schools around the Fox Cities will rotate through a dozen hands-on educational stations, which are hosted by local employers, including Menasha Packaging Company.

This year, Menasha Corporation’s station will teach students about prepress, design and CAD (computer-aided design) careers in the corrugated industry and within Menasha Packaging. Three female Menasha Packaging employees—Michelle Wittmann, Becky Sonnleitner and Brenda Tennessen—will show students how the color overlay process works, as well as how to prepare graphic files for customers and assemble CAD displays. Smart Girls Rock participants will complete a short activity, which involves assembling a corrugated display. In addition to hosting a hands-on activity at the event, Menasha Packaging’s Operations Talent Acquisition Manager, Michelle Zimmer-Maertz will also give closing remarks and be available for questions.

“Hands-on experiences are key when it comes to teaching students about STEM careers,” Miller said. “Coupled with the interaction with female professionals currently working in STEM that this event provides, this experience is invaluable for young women. It is also extremely rewarding for those of us who see firsthand the impact it makes.”
